Page numbers for TOC, LEP
Is it possible to have custom page numbers for 'chapters' before chapter 1? I have a document I want to have the table of contents have page numbering TOC-1, TOC-2, etc. Then the list of effective pages 'chapter' to have LEP-1, LEP-2 etc. Right now when I try to insert page numbering in those parts, I get 1-1, 1-2 etc. My TOC looks like this: Table of contents...……………………………………………..1-1 Record of revisions...…………………………………………..1-1 List of effective pages...……………………………………...1-1 Chapter 1...…………………………………………………………..1-1 The first three in the TOC have their own style (it's not Heading 1). I want it to look like this (and the page numbers on each page to be the same): Table of contents...……………………………………………..TOC-1 Record of revisions...…………………………………………..ROR-1 List of effective pages...……………………………………...LEP-1 Chapter 1...…………………………………………………………..1-1 Is it possible? Or do I have to manually do it? Hopefully this makes sense. |

It isn't possible to do exactly what you want, but you can add specific "chapter letters" (such as F or T) to the page number. See http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/TOCTi...apterNumbering.

IMHO, it is pointless putting the first three items into the TOC since they are ALWAYS going to be on page 1 of their respective sections.
But since this is the case, what if they were actually not part of the real TOC. They could just be three hard coded paragraphs and the actual field code for the TOC starts with Chapter 1 Table of contents...……………………………………………..TOC-1 Record of revisions...…………………………………………..ROR-1 List of effective pages...……………………………………...LEP-1 {TOC \o "1-3" }

It seems to me you'd do better to leave the TOC page unnumbered and use roman numerals for the 'Record of revisions' pages
At a more fundamental level, the presence of the 'List of effective pages' and the presence of the provision for a 'Record of revisions' pages suggests you're still using a revisions system from the word-processing dark ages - a holdover from the days of stencils & Roneo duplicating. Such a system is a disaster waiting to happen. For example, in 1998 the Esso Longford gas plant exploded, at a cost of two lives and millions of dollars of damage. Out-dated procedures relying on manuals with 'version' replacement pages - of the kind it seems you're describing - that hadn't been processed by the end users were a contributing factor. Any organisation needing manuals can afford the cost of reprints of the entire manual - or at least whole Sections - when it gets out-dated. I well remember from my days as an auditor - decades ago now - finding that manuals hadn't been updated with replacement pages, leading to serious processing errors.
