Default Converting a document back from sharing mode.

Hi, I seem to have inadvertently saved a Word document in 'compatibility mode,' and can't find a way to convert it back. There's no 'convert' option on my ribbon menu. I've tried using 'save as' and saving it as a .docx file, but that has no effect. I'm using Office 365, and haven't been using it very long.

Oops, just noticed the thread title says 'sharing mode.' I meant 'compatibility mode.'

I'm sure this has been asked many times, so I apologise for the repeat. Any help much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Steve.

With the document open, try clicking File > Info > Convert > OK > Save.

Thanks, Moonshine, but I don't get that menu under 'Info.' I get three options, which are 'Protect Document,' 'Inspect Document,' and Manage Document.' None of those gives me an option to convert.

If you download the attached sample .doc and open it in Word (you will need to allow editing), what options do you see in Info?

I get a 'Protected View' box, with an option to enable editing.

A Protected view notice is normal for a downloaded document.

If you enable editing and click the File tab, you should see an option to Convert, as illustrated by my attached screen shot.

Hi, yes, I get that same screen, but without the 'convert' option.

Using the Immediate window in your VBA Editor try pasting the following line and then pressing Enter

ActiveDocument.SetCompatibilityMode Application.Version

Thanks for that, but I had to do a search on 'VBA editor,' as I had no idea what that was, and now I can't see any way of opening it. Clicked on everything that might give me a menu of any kind, and not seeing it. It doesn't say 'Novice' under my name here for no reason.

Back tomorrow. Thanks for everyone's attempts!

Steve.

You open the VBA editor by pressing Alt-F11
Ctrl-G shows the Immediate Window in the VBA Editor

If I have a document open in Compatibility Mode and I press 'Alt-F11,' the File, Tools and View options at the top of the page briefly get the letters F, T and W beneath them, but then these disappear, and a box pops up saying 'Webcam open fail.' CTRL-G doesn't do anything.

If it helps, these documents were originally created in the OpenOffice version of Word.

It appears that you are viewing the document in Read View. Go to View > Edit Document and the regular ribbon tabs should appear. This should allow Stefan's instructions to work.

Alt-F11 means you HOLD the alt key until you ALSO press F11. If you release the Alt key before pressing F11 the behaviour you described would happen.

Depending on your keyboard, you may have to press Alt+FN+F11 to display the Visual Basic Editor. Ctrl+G will only be useful once the Visual Basic Editor is open.

Yes, ALT-FN-F11 has worked, and I've now sorted it.

Many thanks for all your help, guys. It's very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve.
