If you are willing to do the work, you can.
you need to make each of these terms building blocks on their own. Then you use AutoText fields for the terms in our other building blocks. |

This sounds like a job for linked (or mapped) content controls. Refer to Greg Maxey or Graham Mayor's addins for simpler access to this functionality.

Hi Andrew, Mapped content controls will not help with Building Blocks across documents. Mapped controls are great, but they only work within a single document. I'm not sure if they can be a part of a building block (other than the built-in document property mapped content controls). |

"Building Blocks" is better but still very vague. It means something contained in a Building Blocks Gallery. AutoText was the first such tool and is still the only one available on Macs. What I mean is that you will want a separate AutoText entry for each of these terms you want to be able to change. Then you use an AutoText field for that term in your other Building Blocks. When you change the AutoText entry, it will automatically change in your other building blocks. You may have to unlink or lock your AutoText fields in your documents if they will be separated from the template that holds the building blocks. You can use a macro to do that. Write if you need the macro. |

I didn't get that this was for a suite of documents. Is that context talked about in a different thread? You can put mapped CCs into building blocks but the links won't work unless the linked xml fields exist in the document where they are placed. For this reason it is better to use CCs linked to built-in doc property fields (although you run out of fields pretty quickly).

If one template: Here is my guide to Repeating Data Using Document Properties Content Controls and Other Mapped Content Controls. Another resource: Create a Form Using Word Content Controls by Greg Maxey, MVP If I am using mapped controls outside the built-in document property ones, I use one of the tools you linked. I keep both of them loaded on my system. |
