Default Word-OneDrive-Excel link not working when Word file re-opens

Please see the attached screen above. Left is when we have both Word and Excel open and we do paste link As: Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object. Right is when we save and re-open Word file, the reference change in a certain way, for example, Link type 'Microsoft Excel Worksheet' is replaced by the link URL and Update Link
do not work. Please see the attached screen below.

Not sure how we can stop the link reference change in that way or there is another method to have Word-OneDrive-Excel link working.

Please suggest.

Excel Verions: Excel 2013 and Excel 2016.
