Default Restricted Editing Mode Crashes Word

Hi I am new here.

Hopefully someone else has seen this issue before.

One of my customers has come to me asking for some help. They have restricted editing enabled on one of their documents. It has been enabled and working for a few months.
Over the last few days they have been getting odd crashes.

They open the document and go to review and then click on Restrict Editing and then click on stop protection. Word then crashes to desktop with no warning or any errors displayed. It also doesn't go into not responding. Just a few seconds delay and then a CTD.
I have been able to replicate this on my PC by creating a restricted editing document and doing the same thing. I have tried this on 3 different PC's and on one freshly built VM with a freshly installed copy of office. Just seems odd that I can replicate this issue across two entirely separate networks and domains. (Edit) only seems to happen when more than one person is added to the list of users. If I add only myself it works fine but as soon as I add another user, Save, close and reopen to then stop the protection it crashes.

I am hoping that someone else has come across this and has managed to find the reason.

Thanks,

Ryan

Your description suggests the document has acquired some of corruption. Corrupt documents can often be 'repaired' by inserting a new, empty, paragraph at the very end, copying everything except that new paragraph to a new document based on the same template (headers & footers may need to be copied separately), closing the old document and saving the new one over it.

That said, it's not clear what you mean by "only seems to happen when more than one person is added to the list of users". Are you perhaps referring to the exceptions you can apply to 'No changes (read only)' restrictions?
