Footnotes spanning to next page?
Greetings!
I am having an issue with footnotes. Originally some were going to the next page when I needed them to stay on the page they were referencing. I took the following steps that I found online to remedy the problem: Press Ctrl+Shift+S to Apply Styles. Footnote Text. Click Modify. Click Format. Select Paragraph. Under Line and Page Breaks tab. Check box by Keep lines together. Except now I am left with these rather large spaces in between the remaining text and the footnotes below. I have attached the document draft BEFORE I applied the above steps. As you can see the footnote on page two is running into page 3. Once the above steps are applied this problem becomes solved but I am left with the spaces. The reason this is an issue is because I am in school and my professor is crazy about the number of pages total in a document. If anyone has seen this before and has a solution I would love to hear it. I have hunted around for some time and can't seem to find anything to resolve it. Thank you, |

Use the citations and bibliography feature instead of footnotes - that is what it is there for.

Hello,
Thank you I really appreciate the suggestion. I didn't even know that was an option. Unfortunately our professor has requested footnotes specifically. I would really like to understand just why Word is putting these spaces in and what I can do to remedy the problem. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks again, |

To work around this, you can set a fixed value for Line Spacing in the body of the document. Your document appears to be formatted with direct paragraph formatting, so you will have to select all the text and change the Line Spacing to an exact amount. Some trial and error will be required to get the suitable distance between text lines. See https://wordmvp.com/FAQs/Formatting/FootnoteOnDiffPage.htm.

Try the attached. The main change is the reduction of the paragraph 'after' spacing to 6pt. I've also modified the footnote separator/continutation font sizes.
