How to put a diagonal line through a character or expression in the Word 2007 Equation Editor
I have been trying to find a way to put a diagonal strikethrough over a number or expression (as in cancelling fractions) within the Equation Editor of Word 2007.
On another site I found this solution: 1. Open an equation. 2. Open Accent menu and select Boxed formulas. 3. Right-click on the placeholder, select Border property, and remove one by one each side of the border; finally insert the desired strike through, from the same menu. 4. Select the template you have built and save it as a new equation. Now you have a new template you can use with any expression. You can place your new equation/template in any part of the equation. It fits to the dimensions of the content. You've got to place the template before typing your expression. I have followed this process as far as Step 4, but I cannot see how to re-use the saved template. I have been able to use this method to achieve what I want but it involves using Step 3 repeatedly at each place in the equation where I want the cancellation mark to appear. The process would clearly be quicker if I could apply the template as indicated above. Any suggestions, please? Robert |

For anyone else who finds this thread, I suspect the missing step was Alt+F3 or going to the bottom of the Equation Gallery and adding it to the Gallery.

To put a strike through over a word, I use Paint. Make an image of //////////// save it and insert it behind the word you want to strike through. You can use Picture Tools to cut the strikethrough image to the appropriate size. You can create strikethrough images of various colors.
