My company has Word 2007 (yep, we're old-school) and I am trying to convert some documents into fillable forms to be used out in the field. Many of our supervisors out in the field use Chromebooks and other devices. I need to have the documents protected, so that the main content can't be edited, but this seems to be causing issues with the fillable form.

I've had a couple of people test it out in the filed and some of the drop downs and text fields are not working on Chromebooks and other devices/laptops. I've read through several things online, but can't seem to find a solution. It works on my computer, but not others. I've tried grouping all of my tables and things before protecting it and tried not grouping them, but neither works. At this point, I'm wondering if I've hit a dead end and it's just not possible... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Fillable Word forms may not work with other word processing applications. Also, only formfields have wide platform support - content controls aren't supported on Word versions prior to Office 2007 or on Macs prior to Office 2013, and ActiveX controls may only be supported on the Windows platform (they've never been supported on Macs, for example).

Consider using Acrobat and pdf forms.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already tried that, but it distorted part of the form and it's missing some of the elements our executive team wants in the form, so I had to go back to Word. I might use Acrobat for other forms in the future! Thanks again!
