Default How to fix Paragraph formatting for all figures in a document?

I have a document and every time I add a figure I have to go set the Spacing After to 0 and the Spacing to Single. Is there a way to do this once and for all for current and future figures in the document?

Thanks.

Create a style and apply that to the graphic.

You can apply a style to all figures by doing a search and replace.
Find ^g
Replace: leave it empty but choose Format > Style and select the style.

Following up on Andrew's answer...

The biggest mistake, IMO, that users make when using Word is not learning to effectively use Styles. Foregoing use of Styles makes Word much harder to use.

Default Vertical alignment within cells on a table

Thank you. I will look into creating a style.

You can change the default settings for Spacing Before/After and Line Spacing in the Paragraph dialog box. When you are done, click the Set As Default button. Later, if/when you are prompted to save your template, choose to do so.

However, as Charles and Guessed have said, the key is to make proper use of styles in Word.

@Charles: terminological quibble, given your profession and mine (technical author) – for me, forgoing suggests choosing to make do without something they're aware of, while the frequent problem is that users aren't even aware the Styles mechanism exists!

In the dark days when I had more to do with Word, I used to set Normal to bright pink and then define base Serif and Sans styles for other styles to inherit from: that way, the hapless user who failed to follow instructions would quickly see something wasn't right …
