Default Formatting linked MS Excel tables in MS Word

I have linked MS Excel tables into MS Word. All is fine when linked to the full amount of data in Excel. Under the circumstances that there is less data in the excel section that is linked the visible rows in word reduce accordingly. Unfortunately there is always an empty section under the table filling up the word document. The reason d=for this is the empty lines in the linked area. Is there a way to get the link to shrink to the size of the date in excel?
