Remove FilePath from hyperlink
Is there a way to remove the complete filepath from a hyperlink? I have attached an image that illustrates what I with to remove (the highlighted text). |

A hyperlink has two parts: the text that is displayed and the path that is linked. These two items are independent of each other.
If you choose to edit the hyperlink, you can change the displayed text to whatever you want it to be without changing the path (which needs to remain and be visible when hovering over the hyperlink). It would be a security risk if you couldn't see the hyperlink path when hovering over the link so if it was possible to hide the path on hover (and I don't think it is) it would be a very bad idea to do so.

What you're displaying is the filepath for a heading entry in a Table of Contents. It is not a hyperlink, as such. It also isn't apparent why you'd want to remove that but, if you don't want to see it, select the Table of Contents, press Shift-F9 to expose the field code - which will look something like {TOC \h} - then delete the \h and press F9 to update.

Paul's recommendation to delete the \h switch gets rid of the hyperlink properety for the text (leaving it for the page numbers).
I am curious as to how you are getting that tooltip to display. In my Table of Contents it only says Current Document. Is your TOC constructed from multiple documents? On your own computer you can turn off display of tooltips. |

It's the \h switch that causes the path to display when hovering over the heading in a Table of Contents.

Paul, there must be some other setting in Word which controls whether the full link displays or "Current Document" but I have no clue what it would be.
Here's one to a bookmark named MyBookmark in the current document. It shows the name of the bookmark, not "Current Document" nor the full link, nor the contents of the bookmark! And, in the same document, a link to an external file will give the full URL/link. perplex.jpg |
