Can Word generate a list of links to locations in the document? I mean as you type you'd do something special to words or sentences and on a separate page a list of links to those spots would automagically be created as you go along?

Presumably, you're referring to the creation of an Index, for which you'd wait until you've finished editing, then use the indexing tools available under References>Index. See also: https://support.office.com/en-us/art...2-cda9d14bf073
