Open 2013 Word Docx

How can I open an Office 2013 document that is password protected without having to buy Office 365? My other computer is down, which has Office 2013, and I'm using my standby computer. I've installed Office 2007 Standard Home and my understanding is that from 2007 to present all docx documents can be opened by use of Office 2007 and following versions. The document has my passwords on it so if you suggest anything Microsoft or Office, which I have passwords for, I can't do it without opening this document.

If a .docx file is password protected for opening, it must be opened in Word 2007 or later with the password. I do not believe that Word Online can deal with passwords.


Password protection for opening is a type of encryption.



I would go with Word 2013 or later.


If you have your installation disk and product key, chances are good that you can reinstall on the new computer.

Problem is that I have office 2007 installed. Office 2007 refuses to open the document even though it points to if you right click on the document. Doing some searching I have found that LibreOffice ver 6.1 will open the document, whether or not it stays a Word Doc is yet to be seen, so I made a copy of the original and am using it, that way if LibreOffice changes format the original will stay intact till my other computer is up and running.
Right now I'm looking to purchase Office 2016, no subscription, and am wondering if it's worth it. Will put it on my other computer when operational.

1. Libre Office cannot open a document that is password protected for opening without the password. Something other than a password must be getting in the way. What happens if rather than double-clicking on it, you simply open from within Word?
2. You can get a free trial of Office 365 which is a little later version of Office 2016.
3. Office 2016 is not available directly from Microsoft. Some retailers still have it. Microsoft is selling Office 2019.
4. If purchasing newer office (2016, 2019,365), note which applications are included.

1. At the present time, I am using LibreOffice 6.1 and am having no problems opening my password protected docx.
2. I have tried to open the document directly from Word 2007with no luck. Have no idea why because it's supposed to open docx docs.
I run Office 2013 on my other computer, I wish I could put it on this computer until my other computer is fixed but that can't happen. I'm going to get a newer version of Office, probably 2016 cause I can't afford 2019. I'm not going to install Office on this computer. As long as I get my email and can use LibreOffice, I'll just stick it out till my other computer is fixed
