language French, font Japanese – how to correct/understand
Editing a docx I've been sent by a colleague … I open the Modify style panel for a heading, and see to my surprise that the description after Font: includes (Asian) Japanese. The document language is French.
questions: a) what does this (Asian) Japanese attribute signify? b) how can I get rid of it in this style definition? |

In the Paragraph dialog box, do you see an option for right-to-left text direction? In that case, you have probably enabled one or more Asian languages at File | Options | Language. (The language doesn't have to be installed, but it must be in the list.)

Thanks for the tip, Stefan … in the meantime, too diligent by half, it seems I've already migrated the content and deleted the offending document :-} but I'll bookmark your reply for future reference.

Thanks for the follow-up.
Since re-creating the document fixed the problem, Asian language formats probably wasn't part of the issue.
