Default Line spacing - both should be 1.0 but different

What have I done here (see attachment) both parts of the page should have a line spacing of 1.0.

I have highlighted the top half but it states line spacing of 1.0 but doesn't look like it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

You have single line-spacing throughout your document (which is not a good idea but is what you want).

The paragraph spacing before and after is set to Auto. Try using the No Spacing style.

Shift+F1 is your friend.

If you regularly use Word, you will save time and frustration by reviewing the short series of tutorials that begin with: Basic Concepts of Microsoft Word - from Shauna Kelly

Charles,

Removing the spacing before and after the paragraph worked - thank you so much.

I am a novice, so could I please ask you to expand a little on your earlier comment: "You have single line-spacing throughout your document (which is not a good idea but is what you want)."

Is single line spacing a bad thing?

If so what is the recommended alternative?

Thanks and kind regards

Dave

That's why I referred you to Shauna Kelly's tutorial. It explains. The single spacing, itself is not bad, but you should leave the automatic spacing between paragraphs. Single spacing is harder to read, though, than the slightly expanded spacing that is the default.

In particular:
2.1 Why you should not press Enter at the end of every line
2.2 Why you should press Enter only once to end a paragraph
3. Using Styles to Format Text

I really recommend that you start at the beginning. You'll be glad you did.

Usually, you would want some spacing between paragraphs, unless you are making use of a first line indent to indicate a new paragraph, of course.
