Default Word Document Positioning and Zoom

I am using a MacBook Pro Silver (15-inch, 2016) OS Mojave 10.14. I am using Microsoft Word 16.16.3. It is noted, in the Help section "Compare Word features on different platforms", "File viewing features", that "Word 2016 for Mac" "Zoom level saved" is "Feature is supported". This is not the case, nor is the document position saved. I open a document, move it to the upper left on the desktop, and set the Zoom at 100%, do some work on the document, save it, close it, and when I open it again it is in some random spot on the desktop and the Zoom is 90%, contrary to what I had set it at, and as advertised. I haven't found, in the Preferences, where I can make these criteria permanent, or default. If there is, please point it out.

They are not permanent in any version of Word to my knowledge. That said, here is a link to a macro solution.

Here is a link to a template implementing this which can be used as an Add-In. I have no idea whether it will work on a Mac but it shouldn't hurt if it doesn't work. It works on my computer. To use it, you would put it in your Word Startup Folder. You need to download the template, not create a document based on it. The explanation of what it is doing is in the thread I linked.

This is a temporary link.

"They are not permanent in any version of Word to my knowledge."

I have been using Macs with Microsoft Word for several years, and I have used the document positioning and zoom save features regularly, until the Office 2016, when it is no longer available. I would like to see it back again without having to make special "macro solution". I don't know why it was removed in the first place.

I've been using Word in DOS, on Macs, and in Windows since the '90s.
  1. This is not a Microsoft sponsored forum. It is user-to-user peer support.
  2. This is not Microsoft's complaint box or suggestion box. You can find that here:Word for Mac: User Voice
  3. In previous versions it was not "permanent" but was "sticky." They "fixed" this recently, as you have observed. They did this in both the Windows and the Mac versions.
  4. The purpose of this forum is to help users make the most of the version of Word they have. No one here has the ability to make any changes in the program, itself. No one here works for Microsoft.
  5. If you do not like the workaround offered, don't use it.

Word for Windows has dropped support for saving the view and zoom with individual documents. My guess is that the same has happened for Word for Mac.

On the Windows platform, there is an add-in (SaveView2013.zip) created by MVP Jay Freedman; see his web site at https://jay-freedman.info/. I don't know if the add-in is supported on the Mac, though.

I recently downloaded the latest upgrade to Microsoft Office (16.23), and was very much pleased with this latest upgrade.

FINALLLY, after two years, I can now position and size a document, save it, close it, and when I re-open it again later, it is in the position on the desktop and size that I had last saved it. I have several documents that have Tables that are several columns long, and stretch out horizontally. Before Office 2016 and 2019, I could Position and Size these documents and when I re-opened them, they would be where I left them. Then, with Office 2016 and Office 2019, these documents would open vertically, and would be in some random spot on the desktop. I would re-position them and re-size them, putting them in the upper left corner of the desktop, and stretched out horizontally. After closing them, and opening another document that was supposed to be vertical, it would be stretched out horizontally, and so would other documents I opened, until I re-positioned and re-sized them again.

Now, with this new upgrade, I'm back to where I was several years ago when I created these documents, and they stay the way I wanted them.

The Zoom 100% Save has also been restored.

Kudos to the programmer who worked on this to restore what was lost.

Use the Feedback mechanism in Word to let those programmers know that you are happy. They will not see it here.

I posted it at the Microsoft Office WebSite the day before I posted it here. I posted it here because of this string that I had started.
