Default move a desktop file into a Word document

I moved a file from an older PC via CD to my Windows 7 PC.

I have the file on my desktop, but do not know how to convert to a Microsoft Office Word (2007) document.

Probably easy but not discovered by me, help!

When I attempt "Recover Text from any File", I get (c:\User\Bob\Church\Constitution\),

not a valid file.
