I have created a multi-level list with the levels linked to the built in Heading styles with a tab following the (a) or 1., etc. All the levels are fine except level one, "Article X:[tab]"
• On some of the headings it appears fine, approximately 1/2 inch following the colon. But others the tab is a hair's width with the following next right next to the colon. Playing with the alignment doesn't help. • I apply the font to the "Article" part and underline it. I can underline the text following using the heading style. but the tab space isn't underlined. How can I do that? tia |

You have to adjust the position of the tab stop following the number. See http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/Numbe...#NumberedLists.

Amplifying what Stefan said, you need to follow all of the directions in that linked site. Adjustment of the indent space after your number or before your number must be made through the multilevel list dialog, not in paragraph or tabs dialogs nor on the ruler.
