ms word and outlook have stopped working but publisher and excel appear to be fine.

Hi I'm working with ms office 2016 and all of a sudden when I try to open a word document it opens for about a second and then disappears. I am also getting the same problem with outlooki(which I really need to get working). Apparently Publisher and Excel appear to be working. A couple of days ago I had a minor issue where word was not communicating with my Xerox printer which corrected itself when I reload my printer then tonight I tried to open one of several word documents that I have had on file for months and I don't get any message; the document simply opens for a split second and then disappears. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no effect. It's very frustrating because I rely so much on both Word and Outlook. Please, please help me to find a solution? Thanks.

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?

I have tried the repair suggestion with no luck. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall with no success. Both Publisher and excel work fine.

Then, go for a complete uninstall/reinstall. Make sure you have the installation disk and product key. Back up your normal.dotm template before the uninstall.

Use the Easy Fix application available as option 2 here: Uninstall Office from a PC - Office Support
Make sure you click on the tab for Office 2010.

Before going down the path Charles suggests, run the System File checker to validate your installation. To do this, open a command prompt with Admin privileges and input:
sfc /scannow
