Calculating age on a Word Document
I am updating a Word document and I would like to do the following:
1. Calculate age 2. When a Referred From is selected (using a drop menu) that the Referral Code populates with the correct code. I've tried to read and insert formulas but I am still not getting the results I want. I am not a developer but I love creating forms and if I can make this user friendly for my clinical staff, even better. I have attached the Word document I am working on. Please help |

To see how to do the age calculation and just about everything else you might want to do with dates in Word, check out my Microsoft Word Date Calculation Tutorial, at the top of this forum:
https://www.msofficeforums.com/word/...-tutorial.html In particular, look at the item titled Interactively Calculate A Person’s Age. Do read the document's introductory material.

This has nothing to do with whether you're a developer, but everything to do with whether you can follow a few simple instructions.
As clearly stated under the tutorial sub-heading Using the Tutorial’s Fields in Your Own Documents, implementation requires little more than copying the second field code under the Interactively Calculate A Person’s Age heading from the tutorial into your own document, then changing the 'BirthDate' references there to your 'DOB' reference, or vice versa. Of course, it would also help if the typed birth date in your document was actually in a formfield… PS: I note that your document contains both content controls and formfields. You should not use both in the same document; they were not designed to be used that way and doing so is a known source of problems.

It's not that I can not follow the instructions. I just don't know where to look on the tabs and what goes where. Your tone that came thru was a bit rude. All I am asking is guidance - step by step tutorial. You mentioned content controls and formfields - I don't know what you are talking about. I will ask my Information Systems Dept and see if they have an employee who is well informed with Word. Thank you for your assistance.

The tutorial provides all the step by step instructions you need. All you need do is follow them. As for not knowing what content controls and formfields are, I suggest you spend a little effort learning about such things. It's hard to believe you don't know what they are when your document is full of them...
