Question Change of text alignment without changing the page layout to "horizontal"

Hello,

I am currently writing my Master' thesis and I have to insert tables with respective labels in my text (on a separate page). I created the tables in a different Word document using the horizontal page layout, as they are quite wide. Now I would like to insert them into my main text document. However, the page layout should remain vertical. Only the table and its label should be in the "wide" format, that is, run from the bottom of the vertical page to its top (see first graph attached (its a page from a journal article)). How can I accomplish that?

If I set the page in the wide layout, also header and footer appear in the wide format of course (which I don't want) (see first graph attached (from my document).
Therefore, simple wide format is no option.
If I insert the tables and its labels as graphics, links to footnotes and Citavi get lost as well as the link of the label to the automatically generated list of tables Thus, inserting the table as a graphic is no option, too.

Does anybody have an idea?

Thanks a lot in advance!

This is one of the tougher problems.

The easiest thing to do is change your tables so they are actually sideways on a portrait page rather than making those pages landscape.

You can insert a Next Page section break (under the Layout tab) before and after your table. Click in the section that contains your table and you can change the orientation for that section alone. If you are using headers/footers throughout the document and with automatic numbering, you will need to adjust the page number to Continue page numbering from the previous section (Insert tab, Page Number in the Header & Footer ribbon). This also applies to your header if you have different headers for different sections. Click on Same as Previous in header and footer, go to the Navigation ribbon (this is under the Design tab), and deselect Link to Previous.

This is excellent information but does not address the desire to have the headers and footers continue on the narrow ends of the page.

I just experimented with cutting the table and its caption, inserting a Text Box from the Insert > Shapes menu, pasting the table and caption into that Text Box and then rotating the text box.

This appears to work but I'm not sure if the caption numbering or TOC entries would suffer as a consequence.

In any case, it is certainly the easiest way I can think to do it.

Thank you all for the recommendations. I use text boxes now for the table and the labels, that are rotated 90 degree on a portrait format page. The label is still connected to the automatically generated list of tables. However, foot notes do not work. It is not perfect, but the easiest way, when all the tables are yet created.
Thanks again!

That's easily enough achieved by unlinking the header & footer from the preceding & following Sections, then inserting the header & footer content into suitably-aligned & positioned textboxes. A rather simpler undertaking than rotating the table. In any event, In Word 2010 and later, provided you have the compatibility mode switched off, you can use: Insert>Text Box>Draw Text Box, insert the table into the text box, then rotate the text box.
