Default How to add Auto update Total Page number

Dear all

Is there any way i can insert a total page number

As now i know how to add the page number but i have to update it every time when i close the file.

Is there a way that it would update the same way when we add page or reduce page in the footer ??

Thanks

You have your total page number in the form of a NUMPAGES field in the body of the document rather than the header or footer?

That seems it would constitute and update every time you touch the document. In other words, Word would have to capture the fact you added a page or deleted a page.

The typical way would be to select Ctrl + A and then F9...

but is this is not what you want then you could do it through a macro.

Code:
Sub Test()
    ActiveDocument.Fields.Update
End Sub
I'm sure Charles can add some additional details to cover, but maybe this helps in some way.

Eric, what I wrote was intended as a question. Please read it again.

The macro presented by Jeffrey will update fields in the document text story of the document. I still do not know if this is a field and if so which field and whether it is the header/footer or in the body of the document.

A NUMPAGES field in the page header or footer updates automatically as pages are added/deleted; there is no need for a macro.

And it will not be automatic as your NUMPAGES is not with within the header or footer as directed.

Without wanting to place too fine a point on it, your NUMPAGES field is not in the page header or footer...
