Morse code in Word.
Do you feel it is useful to embed Morse code in Word as special graphic characters for the end user?

or... No. Morse code is nothing more than dots and dashes and is meaningless when embedded in a Word document for 99.9% of Word users. What benefit would it serve? |

Thanks.
I thought they can display some impressive graphics symbols. Do Morse code is available for all Unicode characters? Which software applications do you feel Morse code is useful? Thanks & Regards, Prashant S Akerkar |

I am not familiar with ANY software that uses Morse code. I am only familiar with it because of the Boy Scouts and my time served in the Navy (as a communicator that USED Morse code...way back in the day). |

Morse code doesn't use Unicode - the dots and dashes are mere ASCII characters (which any Unicode font includes), for which you could use ASCII 149 and ASCII 151, respectively. To create these via the keyboard, simply hold down the Alt Key while typing 0149 or 0151 as appropriate. Finally, please don't post duplicate questions. Although your question here concerns Word, your other thread (https://www.msofficeforums.com/excel...bed-excel.html) is asking essentially the same thing. The answer would be the same for any Office application - Morse code is not of itself useful for any Office application.

dot and dash characters
I find that the Morse code dot and dash is better represented using keypad entry. First select, say, Calibri font for the Excel cell, press and hold the alt key, enter 7 on the kepad for a dot, then release the alt key -- and a nice dot appears. For a dash, enter 22 instead of 7. Be sure to enter a space between codes lest they run together.
Yes, Morse code is just dots and dashes, but rendering them with hyphens and periods just doesn't look right (because of the vertical separation between them). Being able to render Morse in Word or Excel is useful on those occasions where it is discussed, used or taught (yep, not often). Using hyphens and periods does not do it justice. Similarly it would be nice to have a font set for Linear B. Although Morse code is falling by the way-side, it is still a nice means for radio communication particularly for non-native English speakers (esp at long distances), or for those that just are not otherwise gifted at speaking. ▬▬ • • • • • • ▬▬ Last edited by Rickom; 09-15-2019 at 03:34 PM.
