Word 2010 Scam? Years after box purchase of Word 2010 *Notice to register ... ClassicMenus
Several years ago I purchased a full-price retail version of Word 2010 and have been using it ever since. Today when I opened a word document I was working on, a *Notice appeared in the middle of it indicating my trial "testlicense" version had ended today. .
The notice appears on any word document I open, even a page for a new document. There is an "Activate License" link on the blocking *Notice, but I was afraid to click on it. Apparently the *Notice was sent by an entity called Delta Vision. Homepage: www.officeclassicmenu.com. My security wouldn't permit me to reach their homepage. They ask for license code and other things. I tried to upload a screenshot to this message but it failed. The text on the "Notice won't copy so I can't paste it here. I can close the Notice and work on the document, but the Notice* will come back the next time I open the doc. (but my changes are preserved in the doc) I'd appreciate help to resolve my strange problem and get rid of this *Notice. (I'm very elderly and have only basic computer ability.) Thanks, Don Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 09-07-2018 at 01:06 PM. Reason: Change title to give more accurate information about problem. Mark as solved. |

Do not click on any links in that "notice."
Can you post a screenshot? How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum. |

Screenshot of *Notice
Hi Charles.
Thanks for responding. Screenshot attached. (I hope)ScreenShot287 (500x281).jpg Thanks for the warning. I haven't clicked on any *Notice link and I won't. I've been running a virus checker but no results yet. If I could find a way to email you, I could send a better image of the screenshot. Cheers, Don. Last edited by M.Hat; 09-07-2018 at 12:45 PM. Charles. I can't read the image I posted. Sorry. If you'd care to send me a general email address, I'll reply to it with an attached copy of the screenshot. (Which is perfectly readable, but couldn't be sent in the usual way. I tried to reduce the size and this is why this version is unreadable.)

I can see enough.
This is an Add-In to change the menu structure. You can uninstall it. Look for a template in your Word Startup Folder. Do you have Word 2000 (XP)? Your profile indicates that, but your question is about Word 2010. |

If you still need access to classic menus, download the free Add-In from here:
Ribbon Menu Control – Classic UI (Its a long page, search for "Classic UI.") |

M.Hat : Please update your profile to correctly reflect your Operating System & Office version. Presently they show Windows Vista & Office 2000, respectively.

Solution
Hi Again Charles
Paul, my profile has been updated. I work with Word 2010, which is where the *Notice problem is. I had a button on my 2010 Word that changes it into the Classic layout. (I just noticed that the button is no longer there (It doesn't matter)). I wasted a long time looking for the startup folder. Eventually, following the guide you devised (thanks for that), I wound in word search and got as far as the modify button. I clicked the button and my repair came to a stop since I don't know what "Go up one level" means. |

Latest result
I got to the templates and add-ins using this. https://support.office.com/en-us/art...b-2a6e2a39479d
Only Document Template there is "Normal". The only Global Template and add-in was for the classic ribbon (checked but is no longer on my 2010 Word ribbon). There's nothing else shown, but the *Notice problem is still there when I open a word (2010) document. If I found some add-ins how would I identify the one that's causing the *Notice problem. P.S. I changed my profile, but the old listing (W. Vista and Office 2000) is still there beside my name |

The new profile details only affect posts you make after changing it. It looks OK now.

If you find your Startup Folder and move or delete the Classic Menu template from it, your problem will go away. That is the cause of your problem screen.
If it is not there, you need to disable it from within Word. Write back and I or someone else can help you with that. There are links to directions here, as well. Add-Ins in Microsoft Word Note, there is nothing wrong with using Add-Ins, it is just that this one wants you to pay for using it. There may also be instructions for disabling it on their website. Actually, I just found them: https://www.officeclassicmenu.com/en...Uninstallation Again, you can find a very similar Add-In for Word only on Greg Maxey's site. It is free and does not have annoying pop-ups. |

Problem solved. Thanks Charles.
Yes! I unchecked the classic add-in and the problem has gone away. Thank you very much for your determined help. I would never have worked it out by myself. You're a winner for sure.
Cheers from Don Lemna. |
