Recover footnote spacing
I have Word 2007. I write papers all the time with footnotes. Standard notes: single-space, first line intended .5"
I have no idea how this happened but suddenly all my notes have 2-4 blank lines between them and each note is double-spaced. I've never seen such a weird thing happen. I've been working on this chapter for months and this never happened before. Also, the spacing of block quotes changed everywhere from single to double. I've tried changing the footnote style. I have had two problems there. When I change it from double to single spacing, that only applies to the note that I am on. It does not change globally. 2. There is now a big gap, 2-3 lines between the horizontal line for the footnote area and the first footnote. I have looked at the paragraph style. There are no points for above or below the note.
Also, the footnote says it is based upon "footnote tex". So there is a footnote text style and a footnote tex style. I can't seem to access footnote tex style.
I cannot fathom what broke everything so badly but my search for solutions has not worked. What can I do to make a global change to footnotes: single-spaced, with no huge gap between the first note and the separator line. I manually double-space between notes and whatever happened has doubled that. This is so weird! Help please.
