hyperlinks changed in Word documents
This is in a screen capture due to using a text box that didn't show on here. All hyperlinks have changed in every Word document.

It looks like you are just showing the field codes instead of the field results.
Go to File > Options > Advanced > Show document content > Show field codes instead of their values. Turn that option off. The same thing view setting can be toggled on or off by pressing Alt-F9

Thanks Andrew; the Alt+F9 worked; but my version MS Office Pro is 2003. I finally found it under Tools>options>view>show>field codes.: this thread can be closed
