Find F02A and replace with F0A8
I'm trying to find and replace Wingding characters in a Word document. I pasted the first character in the "find" area, but when I try to copy and paste the second item for replacement, instead of the box it should be, the pasted item is a solid round dot. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

This may not be the answer, but are you using a character style to apply Wingdings?

This is probably as expected. Continue with it and see if it actually works anyway.
Every character has an ascii code which corresponds to a glyph (character) for that particular font. Generally, you don't notice that an 'a' character is usually an 'a' no matter what typeface you have selected. However in the case of a wingding typeface, an 'a' might be something else entirely. The Find/Replace dialog always shows the text you paste in a standard typeface (not necessarily the typeface you copied). When this happens to line up with what you were expecting, you don't notice that the typeface changed. However, in the case of a wingding, the characters you copy are likely to show up as something else when you paste into the find what box because the typeface is most likely not a wingding in that field.

Is it the find or the replace with that is failing?
Can you post a sample document that shows the character you want to find?

Here's a guide for finding and replacing Wingdings in Word. They can be tricky to work with.
You may get the result you want by setting the font name in the replacement box. In the Find/Replace dialog, click More -> Format -> Font to set this. |

Problem solved--I fixed it manually. Thanks, all.
