I currently use Word for Mac 2011, version 14.7.6 (170621) and am having difficulty opening some older word documents. One example shows as a Microsoft Word 97 - 2004 document.

Please give more specifics. "some difficulty" doesn't give us much to go on.

Chas, Thank you for your response. What I should have said is that they won't open.
I will attempt to attach two screenshots, one showing details of the document I am trying to open and the other showing the response I get when I try to open.
Sorry if I appeared impatient but I just find it frustrating not to be able to open some important documents. Hopefully you or another member can help me.

Unfortunately I do not have a Mac anymore. I know that the Windows Trust Center has file block settings in ribbon versions that may be in Word 2011.

Are you sure this was created in Word? Sometimes people add a .doc tag to a document file produced by another word processor.

Yes I wrote these documents in 2006 using Word on my previous MacBook Pro.
