A frustrating problem.
when my document prints a number of strikethroughs and underlines appear in parts of the text. these are not visible when checking the document [except when some of the text is highlighted] but only seem to appear when it is printed. i have tried to set the document at no markup but they still seem to reappear. any ideas? kem |

If Track Changes is enabled, you will have to do the following to get rid of the tracking permanently: Click Review | Accept | Accept All Changes and Stop Tracking.

Thanks Stefan. your solution has worked. perhaps need to remind users to select all of the document before implementing the solution.

Stefan,
perhaps premature. it worked with the word version but when i saved the document as a pdf the lines reappeared. |

You need to accept the changes, not simply hide them. You want the view to be Final - Showing Markup and see no markup.

I believe you missed one step. The Accept button is a so-called split button, and you would have to click the arrow (the bottom part) to see Accept All Changes and Stop Tracking. Quote:
That suggests you didn't actually turn off the tracking. See above. If your version of Word does not have the command Accept All Changes and Stop Tracking, you will have to Accept All Changes first and then turn off the tracking (for example by pressing Ctrl+Shift+E).

well, thanks for the help. i think i have got it. hard work really. i don't know how they got onto the page as i did not consciously insert any them. i notice that an anchor seems to appear beside some of the underlines etc. is this a clue to what is happening?

The "anchor" could be a line connecting to a so-called balloon in the markup area or it could be a small square that displays the user initials (as specified at File | Options | General). These are indicators that Tracked Changes are activated.
