Default Reducing a 8.5 x 11 format publication

I have helped a friend format a 400 page collection of poems written by his mother. His niece typed them in WORD in a 8.5 x 11 inch format with some pages having single line spacing and others with 1.5 line spacing.

He would like me to do these poems in a smaller format, something like 6 x 8 inch, etc.

I would like to do this for him but have only worked with 8.5 x 11 inch formats before. I will greatly appreciate any comments that will help me do this. It will be a great learning process for me.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and expertise.

The simplest method may be to try printing to a 2-page per sheet format.

Otherwise, use a copy.
Select All (Ctrl+A)
Change the page size and possibly margins.
What happens?

Potential sizes to try:
A5, A6, B6

If you need more help with this, please ask. However, please also tell us which version of Word you are using, the operating system, and potentially, the printer that will be used.

What is the intent for using a smaller output sheet size? Are you actually intending to print onto paper that size? If so, it can be hard to find paper in non-standard sizes.

It is easy to change a paper size and reformat the document to fit that size but it can get fiddly if your paper size doesn't match that going into the printer (especially if you are double-siding). Using the zoom to fit functionality of PDF is good but would be a lot better if the formatted aspect ratio (height/width) matched the output size.

Default Thank you all

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. After I transcribed about 400 pages of poems, I was able, with his permission, to pare it down to about 315 by combining two poems on one page.

I went with him to FedEx/Kinko's where he wanted to print out the whole 315 pages, printed double-sided, with spiral binding. I asked the Kinko's guy if he could just print it twice on one page, which was a simple task for him.

As it came out, instead of printing the whole 8.5 x 11 book for $95, my friend got TWO 8.5 x 5.5 booklets and is very pleased. Thank you again.

... instead of paying $95 for my friend to have ONE 8.5 x 11 booklet, he received TWO 8.5 x 5.5 booklets for $46!
