Printing in Draft
Is it possible to force WORD to print only in Draft Quality? If so, what settings should I select?
Thanks in advance Bob H |

Word has an option File > Advanced > Print > Draft Quality, which holds for the Word session. If you want always to print draft quality, add a macro to your normal template to switch it on each time you start Word
Code:
Sub AutoExec() Options.PrintDraft = True End Sub

Printing Draft
Hi again GMayor
Before I add the macro to the Normal.dotm template on Word 2013, I should say that in the options - advanced tab I noticed an option to print in draft. I checked that box, clicked on save at the bottom, then clicked save on the template. When I created a new document and attempted to print, the properties box told me that it was still printing in Normal mode, not draft. Any ideas? |

Print in Draft Macro
Hi
I recorded a macro for Normal.dotm using your code, but when I print, the preferences still say Normal Quality......what did I do wrong? Bob H |

Copy the macro twice and rename the copies AutoOpen and AutoNew (three macros: AutoExec, AutoNew and AutoOpen)

Draft Printing
Thank you Charles, but I'm not sure I understand what you want me to do, can you explain further?

You want three macros in your normal.dotm all with the same command.
They should be named: AutoExec AutoOpen AutoNew |

AutoExec runs when Word starts.
AutoNew runs when a new document is created. AutoOpen runs when an existing document is opened. |

Help
I recorded the 3 macros as instructed, now Word will not open a blank new document. Bob H |

Bob,
These macros are not recorded, they are written. They should not interfere with creation of a new document. Delete them if you want. |

Are you saying that when you start Word you get no blank document?

Correct Charles............now I'm really confused about recording as opposed to writing a macro. I will delete all

When you record a macro, you do not do any typing in the vba Editor. You work strictly in the Word user interface and give a name to a macro being recorded.
When you write a macro, you may start with a recorded macro, but you are typing in the vba Editor. When you say "Correct Charles" I am guessing you mean that upon opening Word you get no blank document. The only one of these three that might interfere with that should be the AutoExec macro. I've never used that macro in my normal template, only in other global templates. If my assumption is correct, you can still use Ctrl+N to create a new document when Word starts. You could also try using only AutoOpen and AutoNew. That means that the print setting will not be set upon opening Word but only in documents you open or create after Word starts. |
