In Word an AutoExec macro in the normal template runs before the new document is created when you start Word. I still do not know why that would interfere with creation of that document. |

Not only will Word not create a new document........it will also not open an existing document, which prevents me from deleting the 3 macros I created.

Thanks Charles.....
Deleting only the AutoExec macro didn't work so I had to delete all the macros. Ok, so now we're back to square one which is to teach Word to print in Draft unless instructed to do otherwise. Any new suggestions? |

There is no reason I can think of that those macros would block Word. I tested them in Word 2013 but have no reason to think they would behave differently in other versions of Word.
Basic questions: Version of Word you are using? Operating System? You could name the macro DraftPrintApply and attach it to a keyboard shortcut or a QAT button. Then run it before you print. |
