I have a large document with a main section and 21 appendices. Each is more accurately a stand-alone file, and therefore has a unique numbering sequence. The custom template for the appendices makes use of multi-list numbering for the headings, like this:
A. Blah, blah, blah A.1 Blah, blah A.1.1 Blah, blah With the alpha designator incrementally increasing for each of the 21 appendices. I was originally using one template for both the main report and all the templates. That necessitated creating special heading styles to accommodate for the alpha designators. In each separate appendix, I changed the formatting in the multi-level list dialog to change the alpha designator as needed. It all worked just fine, and the heading numbering stayed as modified. Then I was told I had to comply with accessibility requirements, which meant my custom heading styles weren't going to work. I created the separate template for the templates, and modified the multi-level list to associate with H1, H2, and H3 respectively for each heading. The problem is that when I have modified a given appendix, say D, so that the numbering is D, D.1, D.1.1, and then save and close that file, when I reopen it, it reverts to A. I'm thinking that is because the template is still set to A, but since I am quite sure that 1) "Automatically Update" is switched off, and 2) all the settings for these headings are identical the settings I had made for the custom headings I was using previously, it just doesn't make sense that the numbering reverts back every time I reopen the file. Any suggestions? Thanks, Henry Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 03-19-2018 at 06:47 PM. Reason: Mark as solved |
