Hi folks,



I backup my system regularly by using Casper XP to clone the drive. It only takes a long time the first time the drive is cloned, after this, only changes to the drive are updated. It's a very handy utility that has saved my life countless times over the years.

One of those times was just recently, as the primary slim profile drive in my Alienware M17x system stopped working properly about this time yesterday. It worked well enough to allow me to do one last backup, so that all my files were in sync. There were no errors or reports of unreadable bytes. I swapped out the dying drive for the backup and rebooted.

Everything is fine now, except for one unusual thing. When I ran Word, it "reconfigured" itself, which took all of 15 or so minutes. I didn't think anything of it at the time because I figured it was another MS overreaction to some small change in the system. I assumed it was treating my computer as a brand new system and revalidating the license. This reconfiguration completed successfully, and I started using Word.

Except, when I tried to close a document that was created from a template--which I always have open just in case I find the time to work on it--I got this notification:

"Do you want to save the changes to "The-Two-Gods (heptameters).docx"?
[Yes] [No] [Cancel]

Whether I say Yes or No to prompt 1, I get this next prompt:

(prompt 2)
Do you want to save changes to new-poem.dotx?
[Yes] [No] [Cancel]

If I say No to this prompt, the document closes. If I say Yes to this prompt, I am once again prompted with the same prompt (prompt 2 repeated).

Whether I say Yes or No to this repeated prompt 2, the document will now finally close.

This behavior is consistent for all (several dozens) documents created from the "new-poem.dotx" template. It also occurs with all new documents created from the new-poem.dotx template.

I have reviewed similar problems reported online in other user forums, and I have tried many things. But nothing I find and nothing I try has any effect.

Documents not based on this "new-poem.dotx" template seem to behave fine, for the moment. Before beginning use of the backup drive, with the previous drive, no such thing has ever occurred. I could open and close documents made from the "new-poem.dotx" template without being prompted for anything. Word could tell if I made no changes, and if I made a change, it would only prompt me to save the current file, not the template from which it was created.

On this note, there is one more thing to report. When I open a file created from the new-poem.dotx template, if I make a change and hit Cntrl+S to save the change (a default keystroke for me that is very much a part of my typing habit), I get a dialog window asking me the following:

Do you also want to save changes to the document template?
[Show Help >>]
[Yes] [No]

If I say No, then I will see this dialog again the next time I save a change. If I say Yes, I will not see this dialog again until the next time I reopen the file. But, clearly, Yes or No, the problem remains.

In the Style Pane Options window, "Only in this document" is checked, and "New documents based on this template" is unchecked, which I understand is as it should be.

I have attached the template and a docx file upon which the template relies (Template Files.zip), and one file (the one mentioned above) that has been created from the template (The-Two-Gods (heptameters).zip).

ANY tangible help would be appreciated. So far as I know, nothing at all changed with my system, or with these files. I find this quite maddening.
