Problem with a margin moving glyph that won't go away
Difficult to describe this problem but in one particular document I am working on (a book), whenever I place the cursor near any of the margins, a glyph or icon with two straight lines and an arrow below and above, pointing opposite directions, appears and makes it impossible to move the cursor to that point of the text because instead it wants me to move the margin.
Is there a way to turn off this function? I am at a loss since I don't even know what words to describe this glitch, and so cannot search for it online thanks in advance |

I suspect what you are seeing is the white-space cursor. Ignore it, move up or down and it will disappear.
Elusive White Space by Suzanne Barnhill by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP What it does is turn on and off the display of the header/footer area. It doesn't move margins even if that is what it looks like. |

nope, when I click on it, it creates a dotted line than will then move the margin if I continue to hold it.
In fact it even appears at a paragraph break. Very annoying. |

Version of Word?
Operating System? Are you in Print View? Draft View? Any chance of a screenshot? How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum. |

thanks but that wasn't it. The dotted line only shows up when i (accidentally or deliberately) click on the edge of the text and that annoying little glyph shows up

When you are in one of the Rulers you can move things and lines like that appear while you are doing it. I have no other ideas.

Is it perhaps the splitter? https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...(v=vs.85).aspx

Good thought!
If that pops up and you do not want to split your view, press the Esc key. |

that's the glyph that appears yes. But esc key won't stop it appearing.
