Default Lost Word Document and cant find it!!! I saved it but it ISNT there!!

Please help i have no idea what to do. I have been working a document for like 12 hours now just finished it was about to email it. i have been continuously saving it all day and I saw that I did. I x'd out of it on accident, and it didnt ask me to save, it just closed so it should exist!. Now I can't find it! I have a blank template, or the previous version i downloaded from my email so it must be somewhere else. I have searched my whole computer and it just isn't there, and I know I saved it. This is not possible. 12 hours wasted? I have no idea what to do now.. I cant find it on my computer and I can't pull up the recover panel help!!

When you start Word, does it show you a list of recent documents?

Yea, it doesnt appear. I kept pressing crtl-s every time and I saw it saved, but when I x'ed out it didn't ask me to save... that means I never saved it but I did.. thats what I dont understand.

EDIT PLEASE READ:

I understand what I did, I opened it from my email and I never saved it as a new file, I just kept pressing crtl-s. Is there any way to get the file back?

If you opened and edited a Word file from an e-mail, then usually Word will place a copy of the file in a temporary folder on your hard drive. The folder will likely have a cryptic name and the file name may also be modified. Try running a wildcard search on your hard drive for the first part of the file name.

The name of the document I received from the email is "Module_4_Exercises"

I tried the search but it came up with no results? How would I get into a temp folder?

Try searching for "Module*" at the top of your C drive (include sub-folders).

A friend of mine at work had a problem recently with saving in Word. For some reason (damage to the Normal template, I suppose), Ctrl + S no longer worked as a shortcut to Save. He had been pressing Ctrl + S all day, but on reflection noticed that the save progress bar had not been appearing at the bottom of the screen. He was not able to retrieve the work. Maybe you had the same problem? Otherwise, as suggested, it should show up in the recent file list or by doing a search.

Try searching your C: drive from (My) Computer All Files and folders (include subfolders) but leave the filename blank, instead use "word or phrase in file" and enter something (like a name) that you know is in there but won't be in many other files.

It's time for another reminder about the importance of backup.

No, it isn't. If you read the first post, you'd see backups weren't at all relevant in this case. Kindly don't resurrect ancient threads for such trivia. Even if backups were an issue, it's hardly likely to be a timely solution to a problem the OP had seven years ago...
