Default Using two languages in Word 2007

I work mainly in UK English and occasionally in US English, but also do a significant amount of Writing in Swedish. The spelling and Grammar checker works for both flavours of English, but not for Swedish. Does anyone know how I can get round this? I've found the Microsoft Help site UnHelpful!!

I haven't done this myself, but I would suggest creating one or more styles for the Swedish text and setting the language for that style to Swedish. If you have whole paragraphs in Swedish you would only need a paragraph style. If you have individual words within paragraphs, you would need a character style (see screen grab).
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Steve. I've tried this but it doesn't work, unfortunately. My copy of Word has only English, French and Spanish proofing, and in the language choice they are the only ones that have an ABC check mark. No ABC on Swedish (or Welsh, and my home addess is in Wales!).

Hello Mkn,

if you have swedish and english in the same text then what you can do is to select the part of the text that you have in Swedish and from Tools - Spell check check the Swedish language. When you switch to the English part of the document, just do the same but with English.

In the case you want to create separate documents then create separate templates or when you start typing your text, do not forget to set the appropriate language. Before that press CTRL + A (select all) so you are sure all elements are marked in that language to avoid confusion in the future when the document gets little longer.

But if you completely miss the swedish language then, as Kimberly wrote above, you have to purchase a language pack that also contains spell checks in swedish language.

I hope it helps

If not, contact me via my website

Mike

Many thanks, Mike and Kimberley. I've bought and downloaded the appropriate software. Annoying that I hadn't managed to find it on the Office site before.

Microsoft site design leaves a lot to be desired, it shouldn't be so difficult to buy something from them. Also noticed that it didn't give me a chance of languages in the installation package. It was Svenska (Swedish) or nothing. This wasn't a problem for me, but could have been a problem if I had asked a non Swedish speaker to install it for me!
