"Go To Page" functionality no longer working in a document
Hello,
I have a word document with a table of contents. Here's an example page of the first TOC page: https://imgur.com/rJqHiVK You can see I have Chapter 1, which has a first page of "1-1" for example, then "1-2" etc. When the 2nd Chapter starts, the numbering for the first page is "2-1". This pattern repeats for the rest of the book. My issue is that the Go To Page functionality of MS Word has stopped working on this document, once I try to go to a page beyond 3-11, which is the final page of chapter 3. If you attempt to go to page 4-1 or later in the document, you get a "cannot find page error". https://imgur.com/SHoqFeX I am able to jump to page 3-11 or earlier, without problem. Pages like 5-2 definitely exist, but they cannot be "jumped to". Here's 5-2 for example: https://imgur.com/gPZ1MkL I've updated the Table of Contents by right clicking it and doing the normal "Update entire ToC" functionality, but the issue persists even after that. I have other documents made from the same template, that do not have this issue. However, this particular document that is giving me trouble was transferred to someone using Microsoft Office for Mac to have some content added to it (rather than a windows version of MS Office). I can see that the original copy I sent this person does not have this Go To Page problem. However, we've done a lot of work to the document since then, so I need to use this problematic document since it has all of our changes, even though it has developed this inability to "Go To Page". So, it's very likely that the document being worked on a Mac was the cause of the problem, but even knowing that, I don't know how to fix it. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem? |

Try using Save As and save it under a different name.
How are you going to a page? Ctrl+G > Page? Double-clicking in the TOC? [Edit: Ctrl+Click] Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 01-31-2018 at 05:20 PM. |

Saving it with a different name does not fix the problem, still persists.
Ctrl-clicking in the TOC works fine, and takes me to the page as expected. Double-Clicking does nothing, but that's expected as well. In order to "jump" to a page from the TOC, it needs to be a Ctrl-click, not a double-click. But again, this is fine as expected. What is broken is the Ctrl+G > Page functionality. |

The Save As should have taken care of any file difference from being on a Mac.
The Ctrl+G method is completely divorced from the TOC. They have nothing to do with one another. I have no experience with using Ctrl+G with folio numbering; I do not use it. How is the numbering for your pages beginning with your Chapter 4 done? Look at the pagination field codes in the header/footer by using Alt+F9. |

I did the Alt+F9 thing, and the fields that appear in the footers at the beginning and end of chapters are the same-looking for modules 1 thru 3 as well as for modules 4 and onwards. They're all identical.
Thanks for looking into this, but it's probably just something I'll have to live with for this document. |

You should still be able to use Ctrl+G to go to the beginning of any chapter by going to headings.

True, thanks for pointing that out.
