Hello;



My equation symbol is not active in the word (2016 windows 10) file that i am working on. So I cannot even add an equation. If I open a new one, it is OK. Can anyone help me solve my problem?

You cannot insert equations into doc-format documents using the Word 2010 Equation Editor (they're not supported in that format).

I did change the format to .docx. It did not solve the problem

Did you close & re-open the docx document?

Yes I did.

It's possible the document has acquired some of corruption. Corrupt documents can often be 'repaired' by inserting a new, empty, paragraph at the very end, copying everything except that new paragraph to a new document (headers & footers may need to be copied separately), closing the old document and saving the new one over it.

Another possibility is that your document has editing restrictions applied and you're trying to add the equation to a restricted area.

If you are desperate you could try going old school. The original equation field still works in word 2016 even though it has been deprecated (I know because I use it a lot).

You will need to look at how the various switches work though.

I quite like it as a tool as it doesn't italicise text like the equation editor 3 used to do but does allow you to apply font effects if you want to.

I'm hoping I can hold out using the old equation field until equations using latex is a bit more established.

My file is in compatibility mode. I have solved the problem by converting the file. "File-Convert" works.
