Degree symbol not in expected sort order.

I have a 'Glossary' of definitions. Its a two column table. I sort for ascending entries on the first column only. Why does the degree symbol '°' entered using ALT+0176 appear before A.

Based on its ascii value it should appear at the end of the table, before the greek symbols.

Just curious.
