I just started using bookmarks to enter fields and references to copy the fields. (I know, I should have been doing this for a long time.) Anyway, I have been using "charformat" which works great. However, I have a challenge for all of you SuperUsers.

I would like to enter a date (say with a format of mmmm dd, yyyy) and bookmark it. But then I would like to reference the bookmark but format it differently, not just the char format, but the date format (such as mm-dd-yy). I have not been able to find a way to do it.

Any suggestions?

Unless you're after minutes, the date switch for the first field should be:
\@ "MMMM DD, YYYY"
not:
\@ "mmmm dd, yyyy"

As for the cross-reference, that's a simple matter of using a different date switch there:
\@ "MM-DD-YY"

Note: If you're using the \* Charformat switch along with a date switch, the \* Charformat must be inserted after the date switch.

as my bookmark named AdoptDate

then as my crossref

{ ref AdoptDate \@ mm-dd-yyyy ]

It showed -

00-13-2018

You really need to pay closer attention to the field switch syntax: 'm' is for minutes; 'M' is for months...

in your first post, you saidA switch with that format generates "minute day, year", which is why I said the date switch for the first field should be:
\@ "MMMM DD, YYYY"
not:
\@ "mmmm dd, yyyy"

You then saidAgain, switch with that format generates "minute day, year", which is why I said the date switch for the second field should be:
\@ "MM-DD-YY"

Instead of doing that, you've chosen to use:
\@ "mm-dd-yyyy"
Given that your switch tells Word to display minutes instead of months, it's hardly surprising you didn't get the results you expected.
