Default Expressing Velocity in the Equation Editor

In physics a standard way of expressing velocity or acceleration is with a dot over the variable the represents the position. For example if somethings position is a then its velocity is a dot and its acceleration is a double dot. The dots are placed over the a.

I am having trouble doing this. There is an a-dot in the special symbol list but the font is Helvetica.

ȧ ȧ

When I use one of the dotted letters in the equation editor the font does not change to Cambria math, which is the font of the equation editor. The Cambria math "a" is very different from the Helvetica "a"

Any suggestions?

So what's wrong with using the equation editor, with the letter 'a' and the double-dot accent?

Default The Solution

I discovered the solution by accident. The equation editor has a drop down called accent. All of the stuff you may wish to have over letters is there.
