Default How to edit a style (word 2007)

I can create a style by manual means using font style, colour and size. I can set the rulers and justify. The problem is I can't edit the actual style directly. When clicking on a style and selecting modify, I can use drop downs and buttons but to make it more professional I need to get directly to the text. For example, I have in the bottom text box...

Indent: Left: 4 cm, Right: 4.59 cm, Based on: DIALOGUE, Following style: DIALOGUE

I want it to be : Left: 4.5 cm, Right: 4.5 cm

I can't type the figures in and have to use the ruler and hope for the best. Surely I should be able to type this the way I want it?
