How to eliminate spell check for only one word?
Hello:
I am using the name Autumn in a story, but because autumn is a season (which should not be capitalized) MS Word puts a squiggly blue line under it since I have capitalized it. When I right-click, it only gives me the option to correct one instance of the word at a time, which I have no appetite to do. I have tried to add it to the dictionary, but this has not worked. And, even when I do fix one at a time, as soon as I hit enter or change something, it goes back to having a squiggly underline. How do I fix this so that I can type the name Autumn repeatedly without have MS Word wanting it corrected? Thank you! |

Just accept the fact of the 'squiggly blue line' until you do a spell-check, then tell Word to accept all instances of that spelling.

I tried that and I still have to accept them one at a time. I think it has to do with the fact that autumn is already a word and one that it won't let me replace with Autumn for all instances. But, I don't think it will take that long once I am finished, so thank you!

In your document use Replace Ctrl+H.
In the find box type the word Autumn. In the replace box type the word Autumn. At the bottom of the dialog click on the More button and then click on the Format button with your insertion point still in the replace box. Language Check the box for Do not check spelling or grammar. OK back to the replace dialog. You should see your new setting underneath the replace box. Click on Replace All. That takes care of the current instances. You can save one of them as AutoText for future ones. Once you are done with this project, remove the AutoText entry. Note that this method risks "infecting" your document with lots of text that will not be checked. |

To trim down the risk of "infection" you could use a custom character style with the "do not check" attribute and format to that style instead. Change the color of that style to red until you are done with the project, then change it back to automatic. That way, you will immediately see when you are typing whether the formatting spreads to other text.
