Default How do I get text to line up with their headings?

I have created a multi numbering list (See screen shot), attached to styles, of 5 headings where each heading indents by .1" (So the first heading is at 0", Heading #1 at .1", etc.). The text that follows each heading is using the style "Normal". How do I get the text to line up with each heading?

See screen shot showing text under heading 2, indented slightly at .1", in blue, called "New Employee". I don't want to have to manually indent each time I create a new sub heading. Also notice the text and list under heading #3 in green, indented to .2", still starts all the way to the left. This is going to be a very long document and I have a feeling there is a way to accomplish what I want- just can't figure it out on my own yet.

You set up specific styles for the paragraph following each heading style. For an example of this, take a look at the styles in this template.
Outline Headings Global Stylesheet for Word

This has Body Text 1, Body Text 2, etc. as styles for following paragraphs. Might be BT1, BT2, etc. It has been a while since I looked at it.

Each heading level has an associated body text level. The only difference in the body text styles is the left indent, which is set to match the corresponding heading style.

By the way, in setting up your headings, make sure you follow the instructions at How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly
This is very important.

You will need to create additional Styles with paragraph indents that correspond you your heading indents and use those.

Look at the links I gave you.

If you need help with styles:
You are dealing with paragraph styles.

  1. The numbering must be set up according to the instructions linked previously.
  2. Then set up one body text style for each of your headings.
  3. Then set the setting in each heading style so that the style for the next paragraph will be your custom body text style for that heading.
