I don't know about the lower-case Roman numbers, but you can do upper case easily. Insert a section break between the pages where you want the number style to change. Click in the first section and Insert tab, Page Numbers, Bottom (or wherever you want them). Then Page Numbers, Format Page Numbers and pick a number style.
Click in the second section and the same drill except when you format the numbers, choose 1,2,3 format and tell it to start at 1.

Hello Howard,

if you want small roman numbers as pagenumbers then do as Kimberly said.

Then, in the same window where you set from where the numbering should start, click on the drop down menu on the top called number format.

There you will also find the small roman numbers.

If you need to have in the same document different styles of page numbering, then you must use section breaks to separate them from each other.

I hope it helps

Mike

I don't have Small Roman Numbers on either my 2007 machine or my 2010 machine. Maybe you have an add-in? Like I said, I do have Upper case Romans though.

Hi Mike and Kimberley

Thanks for the suggestions. I have managed to resolve my problem. I also found the following useful site. http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting...atter_2007.htm

In order to have roman numerals and then normal page numbers, one needs to have a page break between the roman numerals and normal page numbering

Regards

Howard

Actually, a page break isn't enough. As I said, you need a section break. I guess I should have specified that it needs to be one of the section breaks that also breaks to another page. But a simple page break will not work here.

Hello Kimberly,

that is interesting, because it works for me, in my Word I have no problems with that so that might be a problem of your copy.

I just found a tutorial on how to do it here:
http://www.mswordhelp.com/2010/05/wo...-ms-word-2002/

Also Howard,
as Kimberly said, you need to use section, not page breaks because then you need to split your formats of your page numberings.

Mike
