Slow reactions when typing, deleting and other functions in word

Hi

I'm writing a dissertation at the moment and I'm having some trouble with word. When I open a fresh new document I have no problems typing and all functions work fast.

Once I reference something everything slows down, Typing, deleting, highlighting. Is this a bug? fixable in any way.

I did a repair last night and still the same.

Office student 2016 is the package I have.
