Need word to auto complete from tick boxes etc...
I am pretty sure this can be done although can't work out how, but guess it may need some kind of database somewhere ... ideally via Office 365 online ... I work in the healthcare sector and need to be able to create a word document to allow me to copy and paste the content into a third party app.
What I am trying to achieve is creation of a form that has a set of yes no and drop down options, once the appropriate selections are made I am looking to insert the answers into a pre-formated word document with sentences, paragraphs and headings. As an example... the following questions could be asked which would then form apart of the paragraph below. Q1 : Was the person wearing appropriate clothing - yes / no Q2 : Is the person compliant with medication - yes / no Q3 : Has the person used illicit substances in the past (drop down with yes no, if yes present option of - 7 / 14/ 28 days Having answered the questions below the response would form part of the sentences below. Mr A was wearing appropriate clothing for the time of day and weather OR Mr A was wearing inappropriate clothing for the time of day and weather. Mr A is currently compliant with medication OR Mr A is non compliant with medication. Mr A denies illicit substance use OR / AND Mr A has used illicit substances in the last (selected from drop down) 7 / 14 / 28 days. If anyone can help out that would be amazing as I just don't know where to turn with this. |

Unless you want to get adventurous with user forms, the simplest approach would be to use mapped content controls (as in the attached document).
The simplest means of mapping controls, so that they may be cross referenced as with the 'name' control, is to use the second item at http://www.gmayor.com/BookmarkandVariableEditor.htm

Well what can I say... that is what I am looking for...
Now the questions is how do I add content so that I can build my own documents, or am I being really thick and missing the obvious. |

You can type text from the keyboard as in any other document, and insert more content controls, which you will find on the Developer tab of the ribbon.
If you want to cross reference controls (as with the name control) you can insert mapped content controls with the add-in I referred to earlier. You can do it without, but it is much simpler to allow the add-in to do the work for you. Whatever you insert or select in one mapped control is immediately reflected in the cross referenced control(s).

My preference is Greg Maxey's version, but that may be simply because I am used to it.
Content Control Tools Both Graham and Greg have far more knowledge of this area than I do. I believe you would be using a mapped or cross-referenced drop-down content control unless you want to use an IF Field to test the content of the mapped [check box] control and give your desired text. |

Web version? I do not know of Add-Ins working with the web version or the mobile version of Word. That may be more of my ignorance speaking.

These processes were a collaborative effort. Greg and I have worked together for many years, and so both the add-ins on my site (and Greg's) started from the same general premise, initially revolving around document variables and bookmarks, but later expanded to include document properties and later still content controls. But we had a difference of opinion on the user requirement for content controls. I felt most users would simply want to insert and cross reference controls and not require the facility to go deeper, so I stayed with an earlier iteration that made that particular task a simple one for users and worked on that. Greg went much further with content controls and if you want that extra capability his version is indeed excellent.

Just to let you know... all is working, although the only way I have been able to create the content is by copying / pasting and then amendeing under the controls properties....
I am sure that this isnt the way to do it, perhaps if you could let me know how it should be done that would be great. Many Thanks |

Graham gave a link to the Add-In in his first response. The link to download it is at the bottom of the page. http://www.gmayor.com/BookmarkandVariableEditor.htm
You should read the page before downloading. There are actually two Add-Ins in the download. I believe you want the one with Content Controls in the title. Once a content control is entered into the document as a mapped content control, you can copy and paste it elsewhere in the document. Changes to one will change all. This may take a little study to get it to work for you but is worth the time. As Graham initially suggested, a UserForm will do what you want, but it requires vba programming. A Userform would give more options. The userform usually relates to bookmarks in the document; Graham's Add-In is useful for manipulating bookmarks as well. |

If there are only a few items you want to replicate throughout, you could use the built-in document property content controls. However, there are only 14 plain-text controls and one date-picker control available using these, no drop-downs. Both Graham's and Greg's Add-Ins give access to drop-down controls for mapping.
