Printing a letter sized document that contains an envelope page
So I have a word document that has 4 pages. The first 3 are letter sized and the last page is an envelope. The user is trying to stick an envelope in the manual tray of an HP printer. The hope is that when the document prints, it prints out the letter sized paper from the main tray and then automatically print to envelope for the last page using the manual tray. I have not been able to get this to work. It always prints from the manual tray first. Tried setting the section for the envelope to manual feed tray in the page setup settings but did not work.
Does anyone one if this is even possible? |

Have you tried putting the envelope where Word wants to put it i.e. at the beginning of the document? Then check the print settings for the various sections of the document so that the section is sent to the correct tray? I don't have access to your printer, but it certainly works with my Canon.
Alternatively, don't add the envelope to the document and use http://www.gmayor.com/Envelope_Label_Add_In.htm whenever you want to print an envelope (or even use the envelope & labels option from the mailings tab of the ribbon). There is not much need to have the envelope attached for a single document.

Thanks for the reply Gmayor.
The issue is that the user has several documents where the envelope section is all over the place. Sometimes it's in the middle of the document or it's at the end. What I'm trying to figure out is if Word is smart enough to take paper from the manual feed tray (always opened) to print envelopes and then to take paper from the main tray for letter pages. Otherwise that would mean the user will need to edit all the document to put all envelope sections to the beginning of the document. I've already tried setting the first 3 pages in section 1 to Tray 1 and Tray 2 and the envelope section at the end of the page to Manual feed. Once I send it to the printer, it starts to print on from the manual feed. |

You could probably do it with a macro to print the envelope and document as separate print jobs, but that is not going to be simple to arrange if there are disparate document layouts as you imply.
It's the printer driver that is ultimately responsible for what happens, and HP while making excellent printers has not always been so wonderful at creating the drivers to go with them.

True dat. I'll take a look on the printer drivers side and post back if I find anything. Thanks for your help!
