How do I auto-correct an initial letter to lowercase?
My company is in the process of changing its name. It has decided that it should always be written in lowercase - so let's call it matteo, not Matteo.
Using autocorrect, I have solved how to autocorrect if the word is accidentally typed capitalised in the middle of a sentence. Using custom dictionary I think I have solved how to prevent the word being capitalised at the start of a sentence. But this only seems to work if I use single space after a full-stop (period); with a double space, it auto-corrects to upper case). And nothing seems to prevent capitalisation on a new line/paragraph. Any advice gratefully received. |

Create an unformatted autocorrect entry of Matteo to matteo. This should work whether or not the name is typed in the middle or the start of a sentence, regardless of the setting to capitalise the first character. It should also replace MATTEO and maTTeo etc with matteo.

Thanks, but is an "unformatted autocorrect entry"?
So far, I used autocorrect to change Matteo to matteo but that does not work when matteo is the first word of a sentence. |

Add an exception to the AutoCorrect rule for first letter in a sentence for your word.

I only have three options for exceptions:
- Don't capitalise after (the first letter) - this is for words following abbreviations - Don't correct two initial caps - Other How would I set up such an exception - the first two don't seem to fit. |

This should work even with the capitalisation option set, and does here with the following settings, however it occurs to me that if you have the unwanted version in your custom spelling dictionary that this may alter the results.

Thanks. That seems to work if I delete the entry in custom dictionary.
However, only if I deliberately capitalise the first letter when I start a sentence with the word - then it auto-corrects to lower-case - Matteo needs help. = matteo needs help. If I write it with the first letter in lower case, it corrects to upper-case! - matteo needs help. = Matteo needs help. If there is a way around this, that would be perfect, if not then I suppose the instruction to users would be to always write the word with an uppercase "M". Then this would solve the issue. |
